New pigment standard available: Divinyl chlorophyll a

DHI succeeded in culturing a strain of Prochlorococcus sp. and can now offer the specific diagnostic pigment divinyl chlorophyll a. This pigment can be used for characterizing and quantifying by HPLC the widely distributed pico-sized phytoplankton algae Prochlorococcus sp. which is abundant in oligothrophic environments.

The list of phytoplankton pigment standards available from DHI is now complete.

It comprises more than 25 pigment standards, and includes all important diagnostic phytoplankton pigments required for determining the phytoplankton group composition. Pigment analysis of phytoplankton by HPLC is a rapid, sensitive and objective method, compared to the traditional microscopic enumerations for determining composition and biomass of phytoplankton groups.
