MIKE FLOOD WATCH selected for many new applications world-wide

10 Mar 2005   MIKE FLOOD WATCH selected for many new applications world-wide

The DHI real-time flood forecasting product MIKE FLOOD WATCH has been on the market for more than 10 years and DHI has continuously been adding valuable experience, knowledge and research results into every new release of MIKE FLOOD WATCH. This has maintained MIKE FLOOD WATCH as a state-of-the-art product for emergency management institutions around the world and the list of installations includes many countries and both small and very large river systems.

DHI has recently carried out a significant reengineering of MIKE FLOOD WATCH bringing a lot of new technology into the latest release. We now see a very positive market response as MIKE FLOOD WATCH is being selected for many new projects, most of them won in competition with other real-time products. DHI is currently implementing more than 20 projects world-wide where MIKE FLOOD WATCH is being used as the core technology. Some of the countries with new and interesting applications include:

  • Argentina
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • China
  • New Zealand
  • Peru
  • Sweden
  • Spain
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam

MIKE FLOOD WATCH is not only used for real-time flood forecasting purposes but also for other real-time applications such as real-time water quality forecasting and real-time hydropower optimisation and the list of applications continues to grow.

The standard forecasting engine in MIKE FLOOD WATCH is MIKE 11 which includes the necessary and very advanced data assimilation tools for improving forecasting accuracy. Further, auto-calibration is now a standard tool within MIKE 11. To see an example of how MIKE 11 outperforms other forecasting engines please see a very recent benchmark article. Other forecasting engines can of course be used within MIKE FLOOD WATCH proving its flexibility as a real-time decision support tool.
