New survey vessel acquired

16 Apr 2010

DHI has just recently acquired a brand new survey vessel, which can operate outside sheltered waters. The new vessel is a TARGA 44, which provides ample of space onboard for survey equipment. With a cruising speed of 30 knots it provides a very efficient platform for surveys. It has been built and equipped for a wide range of hydrographical and biological surveys. The vessel is built by the renowned Finnish yard Botnia, a yard which also supplied on of DHI’s other survey vessels back in 1996.

The new survey vessel was name given DHIVA on April 9th 2010 by DHI’s Head of HR, Margit Ohm Jensen who coined the name DHIVA which was nominated as the name to be. ‘The name of the new vessel is DHIVA, which obviously is a contraction between DHI and the Italian word for divine - Diva. I hope that DHIVA and her crew will spend many divine hours together on the sea and come back with the data we need for our work’ says Margit Ohm Jensen.

DHI has for years carried out numerous projects involving development of ports and harbours, coastal protection and other coastal projects as well as environmental aspects including the fauna and flora of the sea.

‘At DHI we are well known for our advanced numerical models which can predict waves, current, transport of sediments, water quality and more or less all hydraulic aspect’ says Ida Brøker, Head of DHI’s Coastal Department. ‘However, in spite of the advanced models we still need data – data from the real world - to establish and calibrate the models. With DHIVA we will have a survey vessel which provides better working conditions, but not least also better conditions for analysing samples onboard. This will extend the range of the services which we offer in Danish waters considerably'.
